so leah had a dream that i got my facebook backk and well interestingly, i had a dream about a tempurpedic mattress and the quest for my magical sleep number. oh yes my dream was f-ing AMAZING. i was sleeping on this bed that just hugged me with its softness and love and the moment i found my sleep number was about as beautiful as an orgasm. the irony is that i awoke to an extremely hard tatami mat that did not love me. funny thing about dreams is that they are not true when you wake up which leaves us all broken-hearted (in my case, broken backed?). sorry leah, i am not getting my facebook back. but, i still love you THIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIS MUCH!!! :)
anyway, japan is good and tasty. lots of amazing food. last night we had dinner at an izakaya with some colgate alums who are now living in japan. the food and beer was endless and by the end of it, i can say i was pretty drunk. haha but it was freaking awesome; talking to people who really made something of their homestay during college was inspiring so hopefully i will do the same.
now regarding the title of this blog... we went to a sumo gym today and watched sumo wrestlers practice. to describe it shortly, it was the opposite of sexy but i guess we're here for some japanese culture not sexy time. haha but i did learn some interesting things about sumo. sumo traditionally is a ritual performed for the agriculture/fertility gods i believe. so the whole squatting thing they do at the beginning of the match is supposed to symbolize the squatting position japanese women assumed when giving birth. the size of the sumo wrestlers is supposed to be a symbol of prosperity and wealth. now it makes so much sense hooray.
two guys about to duke it out.
